HatchTech, known worldwide for its advanced incubation technology, faced a major challenge: transporting PCR tests at a constant temperature of -20°C. This required a reliable, compact and self-sufficient cold chain solution, which would fit into a luxury Vito vehicle while maintaining the VIP feeling for their customers.
The Solution
HatchTech went looking for a partner that could meet their strict requirements. After considering multiple options, they chose VebaBox because of its innovative approach to cold chain solutions.
‘We were looking for a company that could think along with us and dare to take on the challenge. VebaBox turned out to be that partner,’ says Robert Pietersma of HatchTech.
VebaBox supplied a custom-made cool box that maintained a constant temperature of -20°C during transport, was easy to operate and offered excellent flexibility. As a HatchTech driver indicated:

Customization in Practice
At VebaBox, we applied a Custom approach to develop a solution that fully met HatchTech’s needs. Starting from a standard Active model, we have adapted the design by slightly increasing the interior space and integrating a high-quality double floor. This ensured optimal air circulation around the crates during transport and thus an even temperature distribution.
To account for longer transport routes, we adapted the thermal system software to delay defrost cycles, an essential requirement for stable conditions over a longer period of time. For extra protection and durability, a Wiremesh was placed around the cooling system on both the inside and outside. In addition, we designed a special power pack as an extra safety net in the event of a bus failure.
To simplify handling and increase flexibility, the complete system was mounted at a reinforced aluminium pallet frame. This makes it easy to move the whole thing in and out of the vehicle as one unit.
The result
The first large transport to southern Germany was a great success. The VebaBox maintained the required -20°C for the entire one-day ride, ensuring the integrity of the PCR tests. The compact and lightweight design of the cool box also contributed to the efficiency of the transport process. Satisfaction at HatchTech is high: the VebaBox not only met all expectations but even exceeded them.
